We all live for the rush of a big tom gobbling his way, closer and closer, to our call. It’s the reason we perfect our craft just a little more with each passing year—a thrill and a challenge that is unrivaled in the sporting world.

Unfortunately, it is also an opportunity that is steadily eroding across the nation.

Here are the facts: millions of acres of prime turkey habitat are lost every year; wild turkey populations are declining; accessible hunting land is shrinking; dwindling hunter participation rates are straining much needed wildlife conservation funding in all 50 states.

These are the reasons the National Wild Turkey Federation established the 10-year initiative called “Save the Habitat. Save the Hunt.” The NWTF launched this program to reverse the real and eminent threat to our hunting heritage and our way of life. It is a monumental task with targeted goals that are ambitious in their reach and scope:

  • Conserve or enhance 4 million acres of critical upland habitat.
  • Create 1.5 million new hunters.
  • Open access to 500,000 additional acres for hunting.

So, how can you help, and what does this have to do with a once-in-a-lifetime adventure any serious turkey hunter would be thrilled to take? Let us explain…

Habitat Flats is widely recognized as North America’s finest waterfowl operation. With a home base in Sumner, MO, and additional properties in Saskatchewan, Kansas and Arkansas, Habitat Flats has the migration covered—and hunters know it. They line up for years for their chance to enjoy the continent’s finest waterfowl hunting opportunities.

Imagine being able to follow the migration, from Saskatchewan to Missouri, to Kansas and to Arkansas, all in one season with the expert team led by renowned waterfowler and Habitat Flats owner Tony Vandemore. Now, thanks to a generous donation by Habitat Flats in support of the “Save the Habitat. Save the Hunt.” initiative, that is a possibility…and now is your chance to make it happen for you!

“Habitat Flats is proud to donate the chance of a lifetime for any waterfowler to follow the migration from Arkansas to Canada,” said Vandemore. “We are excited to support the efforts of NWTF in sharing our love of waterfowl with an organization that bolsters the efforts of hunters and conservationists throughout the year.”

The Habitat Flats Save the Habitat. Save the Hunt. Waterfowl Package includes:

“The NWTF is the leader in both education and example set forth for hunters universally,” Vandemore continued, “and we feel our core principles at Habitat Flats most closely align with those of this great conservation organization.”

Much like the core of the NWTF spirit, Tony Vandemore and his team have built their operations around “a rich heritage of respect for wildlife, responsible habitat management, and value-based encouragement of the next generation.” In addition, much like the core of the NWTF mission, Habitat Flats puts the resource first.

“At Habitat Flats,” said Vandemore, “conservation is key to our success. From April through October, I manage our farms for waterfowl, day in and day out…and the reward of watching tens of thousands of ducks call our farms home is unparalleled. Reverence for wildlife through the efforts of conservation is paramount in exemplifying ultimate respect for nature’s bounty, as well as ensuring the longevity and health of our sport.”

If you love waterfowl and waterfowl hunting as much as you do turkey hunting, don’t miss this chance of a lifetime. Attend the NWTF’s Grand National Auction (Friday, February 12) at this year’s NWTF Convention & Sports Show in Nashville, TN, or register to bid on the Habitat Flats “Save the Habitat. Save the Hunt.” Waterfowl Package. Your participation will help us turn the tide on the rapidly diminishing turkey habitat, hunting opportunities, and hunter participation rates that threaten our cherished way of life.

Do it for yourself…and for the generations to come!
